We All Need to be Leaders

“At some point in time, in a group situation, any one of us may be called on to lead.”  This was the main message from Richard O’Rawe at the series of Round Table Workshops held to start the second year of Community Leadership Programme.

He made the point by telling a simple story, saying, “If you and your fellow group members were stranded or marooned on an island who would you want to lead?”

Will Leadership Win the Election?

In a survey of 2,000 managers carried out by ILM, established leaders were assessed in terms of five aspects of leadership including:

  • general ability
  • integrity
  • vision
  • communication
  • engagement.

The activity was aimed at assessing opinion of the leadership strength of the UK’s main party leaders.

2nd Year of Community Leadership Underway

Stellar has welcomed eleven new groups onto the Community Leadership Programme as the second year of the International Fund for Ireland’s programme gets underway in Belfast.

Richard O’Rawe of Stellar told delegates that,

“You may each be called upon to lead at different times during the programme.  We will provide you with the support you will need to unlock leadership capacity within you.”

Employees Want More From Their Leaders

Less than half (47%) of employees in the UK have confidence in the effectiveness of their senior management team says a global survey carried out by the Kenexa Research Institute. Carried out amongst 21, 920 employees in 18 countries, the survey found that an employee’s overall opinion of a company was linked to their judgment of its leaders.

Major New Leadership Contract

Stellar Leadership is part of a consortium that has just won a major new leadership development contract valued at over £2m and involving up to 1,000 individuals from communities across the Irish border counties.

As an advisor to the bid team, Richard O’Rawe, Stellar Leadership, had previously been instrumental in developing a community leadership programme funded by the International Fund for Ireland.

The new programme will use the Unlocking Leadership methodology to build the capacity of local leaders to inspire communities in their bid to regenerate local areas.

ILM Level 5 Awards in Leadership

Stellar has recently supported a further 20 managers, from across the public and voluntary sectors, working in the health and wellbeing field, to complete their ILM Level 5 Awards in Leadership.

This brings the total number of managers attaining ILM leadership awards to 150 in last two years.

Working with Unicorn Consultancy and the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Stellar has designed and developed Involving People, a tailored leadership programme now in its fifth year.

New Leadership Programme Started

A new Unlocking Leadership programme for public sector managers has just commenced and will run through to June 2009.  It will involve participants in a new form of Leadership Development Project that uses an innovative accelerated learning approach.

The Stellar methodology employs blended and action learning techniques that incorporate action learning sets , access to e-learning resources and directed learning events.

The project component is designed to give participants the opportunity to engage in transformative projects and shadow exemplar leaders.

Stellar Leadership Engaged by Almac Group

Almac Group, a locally owned world leader in the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors, has engaged Stellar Leadership to facilitate leadership development within its experienced managers’ group.

Based in Craigavon, Northern Ireland, with almost 2,000 employees worldwide, the company is using the Unlocking Leadership programme as part of a drive to ensure that its managers are at the leading edge of modern leadership and management practice.

The ambition of Almac is “to be the leader in the generation of superior solutions for the advancement in human health”.

Newry Leaders Programme Extended

Newry and Mourne District Council has extended the Unlocking Leadership programme to include operational managers, team leaders and supervisors.

This is a follow on from a model leadership development programme that was endorsed by the senior managers and  delivered at both senior and middle manager level.

The new programme, including a coaching style performance management element, will commence in the Autumn.

New Thinking on Leading Change

Stellar Leadership has incorporated new thinking on how leaders can make organisational change succeed into its change management programmes.

During the last two decades, scientists have gained a new, far more accurate view of human nature and behaviour change because of the integration of psychology (the study of the human mind and human behaviour) and neuroscience (the study of the anatomy and physiology of the brain).
